At GATE Space, we develop green, chemical in-space propulsion solutions for the NewSpace economy. Drawing on years of experience developing rocket engines, our team is chasing the dream of a thriving economy in space and tackling space engineering problems with a rapid prototyping philosophy. We focus on the development of two products: The GATE Jetpack – a plug-and-play mobility solution for satellite missions – and the GATE Thruster – the world’s first chemical propulsion system capable of highly responsive deep throttling and differential thrust stabilization.

Aerospace experience is not required to be successful at GATE Space – instead, we look for motivated, self-sufficient team players who are passionate about solving engineering challenges. As part of a small team of equal engineers, you will contribute to our success by developing and optimizing the propulsion subsystem of the GATE Jetpack and the GATE Thruster. 

Your primary tasks: 

  • Development of prototypes of the propulsion subsystem of the GATE Jetpack including concept design, simulations, calculations and design for manufacturing
  • Design, layout and optimization of the mechanical structure, valves, fluid interface, seals and valve actuators of the GATE Thruster
  • Optimization of the propellant injection, injector arrangement and ignition of the GATE Thruster
  • Optimization of the thermal management of the combustion chamber and nozzle of the GATE Thruster
  • Preparation and monitoring of the endurance testing campaign of the GATE Thruster
  • Documentation of the product development

Required qualities:

  • High level of autonomy and self-sufficiency
  • High level of motivation and creativity

  • Ability to lead and inspire
  • Ability to follow
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Hands-on mentality
  • Good knowledge of CAD software
  • Good knowledge of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics

Beneficial qualities:

  • Applied engineering experience (e.g. internships, job experience, personal or team projects)
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping and hardware-based design
  • Basic knowledge of Python
  • Basic knowledge of CFD
  • Basic knowledge of electronics
